I just received the April issue of Cycle Canada and on page 18 there is a nice article comparing the KLR650 to the BMW F650GS. ("DOUBLE SINGLES") The KLR fared pretty well, but it appears that the 2001 model tehy testedhad been around the block more than once. The magazine was required to return the bike to Kawasaki for replacement of the stock exhaust "to correct a curious whistling that developed as the baffling shifted or deteriorated, something that's not uncomon on a KLR650-A" They also had to have the waterpump seal replaced to fix a coolant leak. Their summary of the KLR had the following, PROS Low price, many practical virtues Smoothly delivered low-end power CONS Wheezy top-end performance Low-budget finish The BMW was summed up as follows, PROS Unusually strong and smooth single Good lightweight touring capability CONS Occasional injection glitch at low revs Stubby front fender is inadequate Bruce "Inspector Gadget" McCracken 99 VFR800 01 KLR (to be named at some future date) [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Kawi has a new v-twin 650 for their 2002 Prairie Quad. I wonder if we will be seeing that engine in a new KLR in the near future? Russel'r -----Original Message----- From: BKGADGET@... 1986 klr 600

Post by laferna@attglobal.net » Tue Mar 20, 2001 9:48 pm

I just purchased a 1986 KLR 600 last week. I would like to know if any of the items made for the KLR 650, like side racks for panniers, windshields, seats, etc. fit the older 1986 KLR. Thanks; Lucas.
