Took my son across the street yesterday to play in the mud/Rain, me
on the KLR and him on a 83 Yamaha MX100 had a blast getting all dirty
and wet. Rode in some BIG puddles.. One was knee deep and LONG my son
made it half way and stalled in the middle so i rode through and
parked had to walk in and help him get it started again. so he got
through and I told him OK this time keep it in first and stay on the
gass and sent him back into the same puddle. Well he made it 3/4 of
the way before he crashed. His bike was completely under water, He
had to walk it home. Question, When I tried to start it after it was
completly submerged in water the kick start wad HARD to kick, Is this
just water somewhere or do you think this won't ever run again?

Haven't done that in years, but our procedure for restarting a full engine
was to immediately take out the plug, turn the bike upside down, and crank
it over slowly and repeatedly with the kick starter, to eject the water from
the cylinder.
If you're not lucky, the piston has tried to compress the water and
discovered after great difficulty that water doesn't compress worth a shit.
Might have broken wrist pin, rod, piston, crank, or other minor damage that
will result in rough and noisy idle if it starts at all. Take two aspirin
and go buy another bike,

Dale it is entirely possible that water got into the cylinder which
would make it hard if not impossible to kick, as water is non-
compressible. It will run again, most likely, if you get the water
out and let the electrics dry.

Yeah Dale, I think it'll start up just fine. Pop that plug out and
kick it over till it stops spitting water.
Most motorcycle engines can take an amazing amount of abuse. You
might want to drain the float bowl and drain a bit of the fuel out of
the tank (from the hose going to the carb) just in case any water got
in there. Although that might be overkill, its probably start right
up once you clear the water out.
