hotgrips & handguards

Post by grandeal@hotmail.com » Sun Feb 18, 2001 9:42 pm

Hello, Just wanted to know if any of you folks out there have hotgrips and after market handguards. I've seen most after markets you have to trim the grips. Not what I want to try with my grips unless it has been done. Thanks ALAN

I use the Gerbing heated gloves.. have both the KLR and the Concours wired for them. Better than heated grips as the back of the hand gets warmed too. I use the Acerbis Rally Pro Guards (still want to add the air deflectors to these..heck for that price I thought they came with them!) on the KLR and the Maier plastic guards on the KLX. Yes I had to trim the grips on the end to mount the hand guard bolt into the bar end. Dan P Graham WA

Hotgrips sells their grips in a variety of legnths and they will cut the end off for use with wrap-around hand guards or bar-end weights. If you plan on mainly road riding and touring, I have to suggest heated gloves because, frankly, they work better. If you will be mainly dual sport riding, then the grips will work fine because you will want a thinner glove for off-road riding. If you plan on doing both, then you'll have to pick. Gino

Alan, You have no choice in the matter. The bolt hole is stationary; the spring (don't know the part #) will pull the mechanism and turn a cam on the sprocket and push the sprocket and the plate along with it up against the chain. That will determine where the bolt goes. The further to the right the less play is left in the balancer system. Bogdan
