going tubeless with tires?

I have almost decided to buy my tires from MXSOUTH.com. I am thinking
about the IRC GP-1's or the GP-110s. I plan on 80% on/20% off. I
heard the GP-110s are good. Anybody try the GP-1's or heard anything
on them? They are a few dollars cheaper than the 110's.
This is most likly another dumb question, but do these tires need
tubes? I am the novice with the A3 as you can proably tell...
thanks again,
Bill
going tubeless with tires?

Bill,
Firstly: tires are a religion, so this is just one person's perspective ;-].
I have run both the GP-1 and the GP-110's on the rear at one point or
another, but never have had a GP-110 on the front. I like them both, but
between the two, prefer the GP-110 on the back. To me it is better in both
street and dirt on the back. Lately I've been running the Pirelli MT-70 on
the front, and like it a lot up there. I'm gun shy about putting too
aggressive of a tire up on the front, as I would prefer the back tire to be
the "slippery" one on the street, and vice versa for the dirt. For my
religious beliefs, if I were to stick with those two tires as my only
options, I might go with the GP-1 up front, and the GP-110 on the back.
To be honest, if your looking for something that is more 80% street, these
might not be the best choice. It depends on what kind of dirt the 20% is.
If you are only doing fire roads, and not trying to mange deep, soft sand,
or loose, rutted steep hills, I might recommend you look to something less
aggressive than these that might wear a bit longer. I only get 4-5Kmiles on
the rear with either the GP-1 or 110, and if I try to push the GP-1 on the
front to twice this, it is very badly cupped by then. I am very hard on my
toys though, and am frequently in fairly challenging dirt conditions. I am
doing much better mileage wise with the MT-70 on the front, and think it
actually outperforms the GP-1 in both street and dirt. I currently have
7Kmiles on a MT-70 on the front; it is just starting to show signs of
cupping and is barely worn. I suspect I will get easily another 5K from it,
maybe more. I could never get that out of the GP-1, and I doubt (but don't
know) that the 110 would do a lot better.
Just my "beliefs",

There was a guy on the list about a year ago who described what
sounded like a reasonably good way to run tubeless, it involved
splooging up the spoke channel with silicon cement.
Archives should have it.

Yesterday I was at North County Cycle Salvage in Escondido
California. It looks like they have two motors and a frame with
parts on it from a KLR 650. If any one is looking for used part,
you might try giving them a call. There number is 760-746-7467
