I went for a ride today since the sun was finally out and the temperature was tolerable. Call me a fair weather rider I guess... Anyway, stopped by a local Kawa/Suzi dealer to look at their riding jackets and found myself sitting on a '01 Concourse, just for a look see... that's all, I swear. Then one of the sales guys and I start talking, he looks up the trade-in on my '99 KLR and we start talking. Here's the deal, and I hope someone tells me it is bad! He offered $2,500 for my KLR (4,600mi) and to sell me the Concourse for $7,299 and no charge for shipping and assembly. Comes to about $5,200 out the door. Keep in mind this was without any haggling and he said he wouldn't loose my business for a couple hundred dollars. Any thoughts anyone? Anyone out there to talk me out of this? Thanks for any insight you can offer! Paul Dallas, TX A13

The $7,299 is a good price...maybe very good. The $2,500 is not a good price. If you're going to sell it for that amount I'll buy it...however, tax is reduced on a trade-in so you do have to keep that in mind. My guess is that you could sell your KLR for $3,300-$3,600...FWIW, Connie's do not sell well even though they represent a terrific value (I am very pleased with mine)...consequently you can get superb deals on them used. I bought mine a couple of months ago for $5,000, it was a '98 with 7,500 miles in showroom condition. I've used the savings to buy Gen Mars footpeg lowering kit, GIVI rear luggage, Heli-Bars, Baker Wings, Fenda Extenda, a new pair of Metzeler's, fairing extenders and so on...So, I've probably invested another markie and a half but I'm way ahead... Best wishes and good luck, Kurt

I would think your KLR should be worth a good number of dollars over $3000. I saw a 00 Connie on Excite classifieds for $6700 with a Corbin, bar risers, etc, less than $4000 miles. So sell the KLR and but a slightly used Connie for a difference of $3400?? At 09:18 PM 1/6/01 +0000, you wrote:
