Steve: I had the same problem. I originally had my stock shifter on the bike when I mounted the new Moose bash plate. Same issue. I then tossed the stock shifter and got the Moose/IMS shifter. To resolve the problem is easy: 1. Put the new shifter on the bike in the position where it works best for you. (wear your riding boots to fit it right) 2. Looking at the bike from the side, push the shifter down with your hand until it touches the bash plate. 3. Take a marker pen and mark on the shifter where it hits. 4. Remove shifter from bike. 5. Grind a half-moon shape piece out of the new shifter at the spot you marked. 6. Put shifter back on bike. 7. Repeat above process if you didn't grind enough off on the first try. I had to repeat 1 more time until it was perfect. 8. Take a test ride to ensure it all works fine. 9. Smile. Don't try this with the stock shifter as it's not a solid piece of metal like the aftermarket units. IMHO, the little bit of the shifter I ground out will make no difference since it's so solid. No problems in 2000 miles of hard riding. Best, Tom

sunday oct 22: duval, wa d/s ride

Well you missed a good one! A great ride put on by Ed the KLX list meister. Ha ha !!! Glorious weather with a bit of chill. I wore two layers of polyprop insulation with an enduro jacket and MX pants. Used the std off road gloves. I met ED (so nobody else showed to ride on this sunny day) at Alyces restaurant in Duval WA for brekkie. After a delicious meal we set off about 10 AM. We both have the KLX650R with the Baja Design kits and are licensed for the street. Ed has a '96 , mine a '93. Knobbies on both. Did a couple miles of marshy like trails thru a field and up the power line trail which was a bit muddy and loose soil at places, mino9r creek crossings, requiring some roostertails...yee haw! Just outside of Duval after 4 initial miles of pavement. On to several fast miles on dirt/gravel roads with several turns.. I don't know which direction.. ask Ed the ride leader. Came out on Ben Howard Rd (semi famous local twisty for the sporty types... not for us knobbie types riding tho) which led us to Sultan. East on hwy 2 for some 5- 10 mi ? on pavement, thru Gold bar taking a left on Reiter Rd up to the 'pit' when you get to 'y' there the main rd goes left and turn right continuing on Reiter rd to the pit. Stopping at the pit asking direcions to get to the trail that leads to a lookout with a drop off you can dangle your legs over (so I hear) . We did several trails up around down and back up and we did come to a great view but mot the 'ONE' we sought. We were near snow level with patches under the shade of the trees and bushes. Had to duck under several low hanging limbs to get as far as we did. Ed remembered to bring his camera and guesss who didn't? I may never finish that roll of film. Most of the trails were rocky with lots of stones, rocks , lots of stones and rocks... did I mention stones and rocks...., some loose sandy loam in places making the need for lot's of throttle.. ya gotta love the torque of these large bore thumpers.. Lots of puddles with a few semi deep.. enuf that I got water in my boots. Now why is it I don't use those seal skin waterproof socks..hmmn. Time to start heading back so we do the same route back but skip the marsh and powerline rd. Get back about 3 PM. Went 100 miles. Nice ride. Thanks again Ed for hosting this ride. BTW this was a d/s ride and any section too much for a KLR or others could do a go around and meet us up the road or trail. SO YA SHOUDA BEEN THERE! Ha! After the Sat ride at the Capital forest of 33 mi of trails this Sun ride was an end to a full bore dirt riders weekend. Heh heh.
