Hi All,
So...i get the chance to ride an LC4..and the raptor..in the same day!
This gets me to thinking throttle response, in a big way. I wander over
into service to talk to our lead mechanic about this..he says "accelerator
pump".. Ok with me, whatcha got? He pulls out a brand new edelbrock
quicksilver 40mm canted flatslide with an accelerator
pump...drooldrooldrool.......
the question to the collective is this...anyone else try one yet?(the one
he has is for a vulcan 1500 dual cable, appears to be physically the same
for mounting, and the jetting should be close to boot!)
On too rambling two..
this same mechanic also has a tool he lets me use to do my valve
adjustments..cant explain it,will get pics of it. it allows you to replace
shims WITHOUT removing anything other than the valve cover. It wedges
between the cam and the head casting and then pushes just the bucket down.
Then just grab the shim. I have looked to purchase one and cant find this
tool, he got it many many years ago and does not know where it came from.
Mebbe someone will recognize it when i get the pics.
and rambling three...
About a month ago i replaced my front springs with the LR signature series
progressives and installed the racetech emulators...WOOHOO!!!
The most noticeable thing is the lack of dive under normal braking. Second
thing is it now tracks pretty straight over the nastys..doesnt seem to be
so prone to deflection. Bottoming resistance is great. general front end
feel thru the whoops is relativly stable. I cant really say how much of it
is attributable(sp?) to the emulators. at the same time i installed mine,
my friend put just the LR springs in and his front end is very close to
mine. My front end does seem to be moving thru its travel much more
smoothly than his. But it still "wallows" on the highway, unfortunately
this did not improve as i had hoped. As far as the emulator install went it
was a cinch..just make sure you deburr the inside of the holes you MUST
drill in your damping rods. Other than drilling the holes its a drop in
part. BTW, for the people that are having a hard time getting the bottom
bolt out and in again...use an impact wrench!!!! no special holding tool
needed in most cases.
The only drawback to upgrading the front end is that now i know how weak
the rear is!!...
and the last rambling...
If anyone would like an EPS of the KLR right from kaw, let me know
off-list. I got it from the 2000 ad planner CD kaw sends us. you need
illustrator or a similar program to use it.
... more throttle response please...
