I have a 2000 KLR650 purchased this summer.
While in another town last week I visited a Kawi dealer and they had
a new KLR650. I noticed something different on the battery vent hose.
On my KLR650, instead of a clear plastic tube going into a black hose
( on the left side ) . The clear plastic tube stops short of the
black hose and the end of the tube is heat-sealed closed. In essence
there's no vent.
Would anyone out there know if this is wrong ( an oversight on the
part of the get-ready mechanic ) or just a different type of battery.

no headlight - resolved thanks to the list!
Hello:
I really really really think the KLR list is quite useful. I'm
on about 6 other MC lists and I really think that there is more
useful information here than any other.
Within 3 hours of my question this morning I got at least 10
replies almost all saying: "It's the fuse". It was the fuse. The
10 amp fuse was burned. On the way home I stopped at Radio Shack
and picked up 2 new blade type inline fuse holders and an
assortment of 10, 15, and 20 amp fuses. Tomorrow I will convert
my fusebox.
Why?
Because Kawasaki for some reason placed the fuse box under the
seat. This means that at a minimum a trailside repair consists
of removing both side panels (4 screws) and the seat (2 x 10mm
bolts) to get to the fuse panel. Silly.
For the amount of $9 or so I got the pieces to replace both of
the underseat fuses with the new blade style fuses. Radio
Shack actually sell boths blade and mini-blade inline fuse holders.
I purchased the mine-blade style as these are actually smaller
and the same as my BMW uses. I will now carry 3 spare 10, 15, and
20 amp fuses and be able to replace quickly on the trailside in a
few minutes. Thanks Arne for the original idea.
If anyone is interested I can snag a few digital photos of the new
fuse area, fuse assembly, and where I mounted it. It should be a snap.
I'm relieve to find that I didn't have anything more serious wrong
with the bike and that I can take it riding tomorrow afternoon.
Best,
Tom
