I went to Diablo Kawasaki this morning (Sat, Oct 14, 00) to get my 500 mile service and saw an old KLR 650 standing out front. I don't know the year but it's blue and white. It had a fork brace and what looked like a modified sport bike front brake rotor. It also had a large lugage rack and (I think) MAC-D sadle bag guards, a bash plate, highway pegs, and tall windshield. There was a MOAB sticker on the front fender with gripsters all around and stock exhaust. Does it belong to anyone here? Looks like it's been to hell and back. The dealer also has 2 new 2001 KLR650's in stock if anyone in the S.F. Yep, Diablo Kawi are the only KLR service people I've found that I really like. I've been going there since '89. That was my bike you saw, nice seat huh. I took the corbin off and haven't cleaned the bike in months. It's my daily rider but I plan on cleaning it up real soon. It normally looks better without the torn seat that was on there. :^0 Anyway it was in for a new balancer chain that I got from S. Pye in Canada. I was there yesterday myself, to pick it up. The bike has over 86,000 miles on it and I am just amazed at how good & strong it runs.(Broken odometer) I see the motor lasting another 65,000 miles easily. The bike has lasted with very little maintenance. Brake pads, tires, gas, oil,cables, couple of valve checks, chain and sprockets. Keeps on thumpin' All the racks and guards are from Tim at Happy Trails, the 320mm rotor is from MAP Engineering, and the windshield was a clearview. Moose off road plate and progessive springs from Fred at Arrowhead Motosports in Moab. Conall fleet of KLRs

this is standard o.p. on every yamaha i've ever had; still haven't bought a klr, but sounds like the same thing. it's a wet clutch, yes? when the oil is cold and uncirculated between the clutch plates, like when the bike is cold, the plates want to stick a bit, causing that lurch. they'll usually break free and let the tranny spin before the engine stalls. on one of my old yammies it was such a pain, i would ride the bike and intentionally slip the clutch at speed, and it would help for a while. not great for clutch life of course . . my nickel's worth. -----Original Message----- From: halvor.dan.jon@... This only occures with the initial start, after this it seems to be very smooth when changed from neutral to first. I thought that after my 500 mile tune this would change, but it did it again this afternoon. It was 70 degrees out and I let it come up to normal riding temp before starting. It is a 2001 with about 550 miles on it. It did not start doing this until about 350 miles. The mechanic said that it was just not warmed up yet considering that it was fall and cooler weather. I doubt this explaination as I do warm is up and it did not do it when I first bought the bike. Has anyone else had this problem?
