Hi all, I'm new to the group. I've considered purchasing a KLR 650 for some time now and I'd like to know how many miles I should expect to put on one before it gets retired. I read this article http://home.att.net/~flafrank/kawasaki.htm and the author says: "On the down side. You can't expect Rolex quality at Timex prices. The bike has a life expectancy of probably 50,000 km (30,000 mi) max." Does this sound about right? Thanks,

Well Greg, Mine got more than 80000km. My friend has got 134000km and he rides her hard. We both have 1988 KLR 650 A2. I don't know how much this author understands about Rolexes and Timexes but it seems like the KLR is a mistery to him. Have fun, deks, Croatia _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com Share information about yourself, create your own public profile at http://profiles.msn.com

no, it sounds silly in fact. mine would be worn out in less than 2 years (and i'd still have a couple years of payments on it, argh!) there are many listers with many more miles on their bikes. if you ride 90% pavement, and you take care of your bike, i'd expect at least 100k out of the bike. the only serious top-end issue would be to replace some chains (cam? balancer? both?) between 30-50k depending on who you believe. at least check em closely around 30-35k and make your own decision. mark weaver

Hi, I expect to ride mine until Kawasaki no longer make spares, and then I guess someone else will. My valves have been running LI/Ri/Lexh/Rexh 4/5/6/7 thou from 500 miles onwards (now at 5500mls), must have a good set of seats. Ok, a bit on the tight side, but have not changed. I found a "motorcycle tire changer" for sale at www.harborfreight.com.  Does anyone have experience with this product and how well it works? The $ 20 price tag is probably a clue to it's overall quality. It's item # 42927-0VGA   - Bill   Bill@...
