I picked up on the Grog soliloquy right away and regret that I didn't ever get to know Eric. But I sure enjoyed the Grog stuff, along with most or all of his other posts. He posted my stuff on his site at Angelfire or whatever it was, and lots of other people's pictures and information, and I share his impatience with people who might be unwilling to use the resources immediately at hand. I mean, who would you want to be stranded in the woods with, standing over a broken bike? Someone who didn't know where to turn and was generally helpless, or someone who had a power of observation and an ability to make a decision? Backroad Bill Eric must have been a brother.

side panel melting / tweety

I have a couple of questions I hope the list can answer. At the end of a 200-mile ride at highway speeds a few weeks ago , I noticed a new sound at low Rpm s. I assumed something had vibrated loose and was rattling around. Upon closer inspection I determined the sound is coming from the stock muffler. I tightened all the nuts and bolts associated with the muffler, but the noise remains. During the inspection I also noticed a small part of the lower right side panel lip had melted away (semi-circle shape about the size of a quarter) that is adjacent to a vertical weld on the muffler. I checked the weld to see if it had split, but I could not find an exhaust leak. I guess this new noise could be the onset of Tweety (I had a few air cooled VW's and the noise does not sound like one) but my real concern is the side panel. I was using a pair of Ortliebs with Tim s side racks when this happened, so there is no way the bag forced the side panel to touch the muffler. The insulation on the right side panel is still attached, so I am clueless as to why this happened outside of the fact it was 104F that day, but I have riden for prolonged periods in high temp before without anything melting. Anyone else have this happen? If so, what did you do to stop it from reoccurring? Thanks in advance, John _______________________________________________________ Say Bye to Slow Internet! http://www.home.com/xinbox/signup.html
