moab trip - part 2

Post by Karl Raupp » Mon Oct 09, 2000 9:42 pm

Moab Trip October 1-5, 2000 KLR Adventure! I packed up camp when I got back anticipating the long ride back. I left the KOA at 5:00am Friday morning and was back home in London at 8:30. Gonzo time since I lost 2 hours in the time zone changes. After the drive down, 1200 kms of riding, hiking all day one day and then the drive back, I was beat down tired. The mods on my bike are minimal. I'm running Continental TKC-80 tires with over 12,000kms on the present set. I did't ride those trails with a nice new set of meats. A great tire, just mount a set and get it over with. I also have Progressive fork springs and a Progressive rear spring over the stock shock. MSR bashplate of coarse. Barkbuster lever protectors with UFO hand covers. For this ride I didn't use a tankbag and instead was using the Kawasaki tailbag. I find the tank bag gets in the way a bit when standing on the pegs and trying to lean forward. I also just picked up a Garmin E-Trex GPS and used it for the first time on the White Rim trail. Wow, what an aid to have! How did I manage without one? These things are super cheap nowadays, there is no excuse to not have one. Finally, a 14 tooth front sprocket. That helped with the knarly stuff most I think. Otherwise it's a stock bike. I have to say my Moab experience was outstanding. The scenery is second to none, the riding excellent, the hospitality great. I even saw a Unimog! I can't wait to get back, hopefully soon. TTYL Karl

moab trip - part 2

As soon as I figure out how to shrink the size of my pics. JPG's are 500k each. If I save in GIF and decrease the colour depth, I get white dots all over my pics, but the filesize if slightly more manageable. I've got about 20+ pics picked out to scan, but that's a 10 meg download if someone is gonna sit and view them all. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks! Karl

The keys are Grog = Eric Z, and Slide got a new Darien jacket with an electric vest. It had me totally confused at first until Toby explained who Grog was. Then it quickly made sense. Prior to that I was rather preplexed myself. Russel'r DSN_klr650@egroups.com Subject: Re: [DSN_klr650] bye Grog! Jazranch@... wrote

Strangely moving, though in a maudlin sort of way. Perhaps I missed some earlier post from which this was taken? I nominate this for the "James Joyce Unintelligibility Award" for 2000...... Tom Bowman A14
