new slant on tires

I've been on the KLR about a month now and have taken it off road about three or four times. While I'm an avid mountain biker, I haven't been on a dirt motorcycle for about 25 years. It's a little different with 350 lbs. under you instead of 27 lbs. With all this talk about tires, I feel the stock ones are pretty good for the way I ride (highways and EASY trails). Although, every now and then, I'll hit a patch of mud or slime and wish for a little more knob. But then I realize they wouldn't give me the ride the stock ones do on the highway. I understand that it's easy to get a better dirt tire or a better highway tire but it's always at the expense of the other. My question is: is there a tire that is better all around than the stock tire (i.e. better on the highway AND on the trails) and lasts as long? Thanks, Leon Droby A14

Just about any dual-sport tire is better than stock. You've opened a can of worms. "Swede"
