6000 mile service

Post by Tumu Rock » Fri Oct 06, 2000 2:57 am

I'm prepping to do the 6000 mile service this weekend...Any recomendations on what type of grease to use for uni-trak and steering stem bearings? I'm not trying to start a big debate I just have zero knowledge on grease (other than the stuff my dad used to use in his hair). dat brooklyn bum _______________________________________________________ Say Bye to Slow Internet! http://www.home.com/xinbox/signup.html

For the Unitrack find a good moly-disulphide grease, the more moly the better. As for the steering, maybe use something marketed as water resistant like "boating" grease, the kind that is generally a blue colour. ! ! Mister_T

warm tire

Message 12299 of 12506 [ Reply ] [ Forward ] [ View Source ] Brad: Warming of tires is absolutely normal, especially at freeway speeds. Besides, it is the warm tires that allow you to drag the pegs in the twisties as your passing all the sport bikes. Haha. By the way, I hope that you are not running 28psi in the front tire as well. I would keep it between 19-21psi. Aloha, Scot From: Brad Davis Date: Tue Oct 3, 2000 12:54pm Subject: Warm Tire Has anyone noticed that the rear tire on their KLR gets pretty warm when in use? I noticed that mine gets warm to the touch, not hot mind you, but warmer than I would expect after a low speed run (< 55mph for 4-5 miles). I know that there is friction between the tube and the inside walls of the tires but this being my first bike I don't have a reference point as to normal operating temperatures. The front gets warm too, but not as much as the rear. BTW, I run my tires at 28psi. Thanks all, Brad A9
