I checked the IBA web site today and found this out; Smallest motorcycle to finish an Iron Butt Rally: 1997 Martin Hildebrandt Zundapp KS175 (Martin is from Germany) 1995 Ed Otto Honda Helix (250cc single cylinder scooter) 1993 Don Dingbaum Honda CBR600F2 1993 Doug Packard Kawasaki KLR650 Damn ! I had no idea a KLR had ever ran much less finished the IBR ! Doug Packard, are you on this list ? Before I found this out I noted Peter Dean did a SS2K in Sept '98 on a KLR. That's 2 back to back 1000 miles within 24 hr days. Ric Merry SS1K & BB15K (on a ZG1000) A7 KLR650 (SS1K someday ?)

Jim, Yes this is my first and first saddlesore. I am getting very excited about it. I think it will be a great adventure. I attempted it in '97 only to have mechanical failure before the first checkpoint. (Actually it was my fault, I overloaded the bike and the rear shock failed making it impossible for me to adjust the chain.) Don't know if anyone remembers that, I was madly emailing the list from the parking lot of the starting line when I found the dealer had installed the tie rod bolts backwards and they were rubbing on the chain =8^0. Anyway, If you look around on the IBA website you'll find plenty of info there, I think I have the first "official" Saddlesore on a KLR in the IBA, but Peter Dean is the most prolific KLR rider. His email id is: PMDean650@..., He's a decent enough guy and I've corresponded with him many times in the past. Is this your first Saddlesore or your first on a KLR? Good luck and come back alive, Jim Barthell
