The question was raised about cowboy boots v. motorcycle boots. True motorcycle boots have a retention system (straps, laces, toggles) that will keep the boot from being pulled off as you slide across the pavement. If they are well designed, they will also be waterproof. I wear a pair of Red Wing engineer/western style boots that have vibram soles. They are admitedly a compromise, but they are much better than a lot of the alternatives. When I finally break down and buy a pair of "real" moto boots, it's going to be for water protection. I wear the Red Wings because that's what I wear all the time (I wore the last pair for more than 11 years, and still wear them some.) The thing to remember is that something is better than nothing. It's not sandles v. Alpinestars. Every level of protection you add is a good thing. Even maximum protection is limited. Ralph who is not going to talk about the difference between argumentation and opinion today. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Ralph E.
