rfi - looking for happy trails pannier owners
Posted: Tue Sep 26, 2000 2:41 pm
Hello:
Finally got the Happy Trails SU racks mounted successfully. I have
to admit that the instructions on which screw and washer to put
where could have been a little better. I'm planning on documenting
my job with pictures and sending the entire MS Word document to Happy
Trails so they may use it if they so desire. It was all pretty easy
except for the re-location of the turn signals. I could not figure out
exactly how to mount them with the supplied hardware. I had 2 extra
folks around in the basement shop that day wrenching on various bikes
and we all had different ideas on how to make it work. I guess this
could be because the final line of instructions says:
"Relocate turnsignal".
I finally figured out what the 2 extra 8" pieces of metal and washers
were for. But, you know, a single closeup picture could have helped.
And of course it was 5 p.m. on a Sunday and they're not going to be
at work.
Now, on to the next step: Mounting the 35L aluminum panniers. I know
we have some folks on the list who have done this. Hopefully at
least one of you has a digital camera. Would someone be so kind as to
take a picture of the rear side of one of the cases along with perhaps
a rear view of them on the bike with a closeup of all the linkages?
Before I spend another afternoon puzzling over this one it would make
my job a lot easier if I could see a few photos.
I am one of those total visual folks. Don't send me a paragraph on
how to get to your house, just send a map. For mounting stuff I'm
the same way, I like pictures. Words can be mis-interpreted.
And, if you have exact measures on where you drilled your holes that
would be great. I don't want to mount my cases too low, but I don't
want to go too high either. I like to be able to zoom around a bit
but want the weight as low as possible.
Thanks in advance,
Tom V.
