Greetings Collective.....just returned from a vacation trip (in the cage
unfortunately) to New Mexico and Colorado. I can honestly say that I am
jealous of the members of the collective from this part of the country.
So many dirt roads up into the mountains that I lost count. I think my
wife was tired of hearing me say "sure wish I had the KLR out here". We
went through Sante Fe, NM., spent a day hiking at Bandelier Nat.
Monument, then headed up to Red River, NM. for two more days of hiking
in the mountains. Trip then took us up to the Great Dunes Nat. Monument
in Colorado. A huge 6900' sandbox at the base of the Rockies. Spent
another day hiking here in the sand and snow! Oh well.....guess it's
good to be back home in Texas, need to recover from all that hiking.

replacement rear rack

I have rebuilt my computer at work recently and lost all my old url lists. I
remember seeing someone selling a replacement rear rack for the KLR. It was
wider to accomodate a duffle bag. Anyone know who makes this? Anyone have
it? Impressions?
Thanks,

CBT Imports makes it. 1 800 782 4686. They are in San Jose, Ca. Jeff is
your man. I am impressed with it. It is good looking and sturdier than the
stock unit as well as wider. Numerous slots and holes for fastening gear.
One suggestion, I would insert the threaded holes in the stock rack where
this one attaches with Keenserts, Timeserts,or Helicoils ( I don't like
Helicoils but they are easy to find). The aluminum casting of the stock rack
is soft and the screws gall easily, one or two times in and out and they
will strip.

Fred Hink shows a picture of a "Top of the Line" rack under his new
items. Is that the one you are thinking of? I was thinking of checking
it out myself.
