starter button

Took my A3 into a section of trail today that had me chanting "this is not a
dirt bike" all the way back out to more manageable ground. Just after making
it to safety I heard the bike making a funny sound and decided to shut it
down...it would not. The starter kept going, I hit the kill switch and the
starter still kept going, put it in gear, dumped the clutch and it still
kept going. Finally dismounted and found the suitable mechanical rock and
gave the starter a whack to no avail, finally gave the starter button a wack
on the side and it disengaged. I guess because the starter was engaged
before I turned the key off the key switch had no effect on the completed
circuit. Keep in mind all this happened very quickly and I didn't exactly
lay out schematics out in the middle of BF Egypt. When I got I dismantled
the switch, cleaned and lubed both it and the kill switch and put her all
back together and all seems OK now. I think I hit a jump/bump with enough
force that the little contact plate in the switch turned and was hung up by
the return spring. Something I'll now add to my annual maintenance program.
