hmmm, interesting comparison, but remember to a certain degree even within the ranks of the dual sport world, it's really apples and oranges, in my humble opinion if you are looking for hard core dirtablility with like 90% off road riding then I'd probably pick the XR. On the other hand the KLR is THE epitome of dual sport bikes, you can go and play in the dirt and go thorough pretty much anything the XR can do, maybe not with the ease that the XR does but it'll do it. Try the XR on a bit of a road trip, even extended gravel road running and it can be pretty punishing, check out an interesting 'comparo' between the Dr and KLR for some personal experiences at http://www.searchforstuff.com/bctrip/page7.html each bike has there strength and you need to decide what type of riding you want to do.
