I see that the Dual Sport News is selling new OEM Dunlop 750 tires. How
many miles could I expect from these? I'd be riding mostly on the road. TIA

Hi Paul,
I got about 3500 miles out of my original rear Dunlop. My front OEM Dunlop
is still good at about 4000 miles and counting.

It is an advertiser in Dual Sport News...DUAL STAR. I was able to get 5,200 miles on the rear and 7,500 miles on the front...most folks get less... Paul: The archives will give you better info. about tires than I can. I
intend to use OEM tires in the US and Canada. I would not be surprised to get
only 6-8000 miles from the tires carrying my load. For the price, about $100
for the pair, I think they will suffice for our road conditions. For Latin
America I will probably want something a little more biased for offroad use
(maybe 75/25). Another reason I like the Dual Sport centerstand is,
especially with the load I will be carrying, the problem of the side stand
sinking in soft ground/hot asphalt and dumping the bike. I am even thinking
of taking a 1 foot square aluminum plate to put under the centerstand legs. I
will have to be careful not to load the bike beyond its load limit even if
the stuff fits on the bike. I will also be conscious of the need for adequate
weight up front. I have made a nice large tool carrier from waterproofed 4
inch diameter x 20 inch long PVC pipe which will attach to the highway pegs
crossbar using 6 inch hose-type clamps. It will put about 10-15 lbs. down low
and up front. Enough for now.

I got 9,000 Miles out of the front and around 6,000 on rear. But let me
tell you, the front was very bad. Not bald but bad. The sides looked like
new knobbies and the center was just plain ugly. Plus it started to have
rubber tears in the tread.
Running Dunlop Trailmax on rear, $hitty in Mud, wet grass, wet sand. Great
in rain and dry road so far and good on hard packed trail riding.
Considered 80% road / 20% dirt
On the front is a Michelin Sirac. Great in rain and dry road. Haven't been
in the trails yet with it. Cost me 55 bucks. 15 for new inner tube and
balance. It is an original equipment for the BMW Duel Sport. Nice looking
tire. I like it so far. Considered 75% road / 25% dirt
I have 10,550 on my bike now. 3,000 I put on. The rest was previous owner.
Did my valve check on it the other day and it was perfect.
The bike is sound. I love it.

No way, my experience with the OEM tire is that it ain't a bad road tire. It's fairly sticky but that comes with a price, I routinely carried heavy loads, (not as much as you have described but heavy none the less). I think you'll be lucky to get 4800-5000 with the loads you described. Well, I take that back, all my miles were in the southern US Very hot conditions and relatively high speeds. ~70mph indicated, (actually closer to 63 as KLR speedos are optimistic by about 10%). Either way, I'll take the security of a sticky tire over high mileage anyday. I just got 2 sets of tires from Dualstar and a set of plastic. Ummm these aftermarket centerstands aren't like the OEM ones your used to. I used to put my goldwing up on the centerstand all the time. It was a piece of cake compared to the KLR. While the rotor and adapter bracket was fairly expensive, I do not regret the investment one bit. The bike now stops very nicely, even with my substantial bulk and a full load of camping gear on board.
