Hello Folks,
I've just discovered this newsgroup and am really glad to see it. I
spent over an hour perusing many of the archived messages but was
overwhelmed with the shear number.
I used to own a '93 KLR650 but it was stolen on X-mas eve in '94.
With a career move, a new family and financial obligations, I haven't
had a bike since.
Currently, I am looking at buying a new KLR. I've done quite a bit
of research looking hard at many D-P's: BMW's (not enough pennies -
especially the GS), Tiger (has to be the most beautiful), Cagiva
(really like!), Black Panther (interesting), Suzuki (never been much
of a suzi fan), Guzzi (reviews really shot it down) and have decided
that getting a new KLR is the best choice in terms of economy and
overall practicality (however, if they ever released the Africa Twin
on this part of the continent...hmmmm!)
I came close last year to buying a new KLR but just couldn't abide
the army issue scheme and also decided to postpone the purchase
because of a new home mortgage. This years colors still aren't great
but the silver tank makes it a little more tolerable then last years -
I really liked the '99's color scheme, wish they where offering
something comparable.
I would like to ask the members of this newsgroup if they have any
advice on how to attain the best deal on a new purchase. I have
started negotiations with the local Kawi dealer but have found that
they are pretty firm on the MSRP. Anyway, if any of you have any
advice - I'd sure appreciate it!
Thanks,
Doug

I bought my A15 Aug. 3 for $4599. The dealer said he was making
about $200 on the sale. I tend to believe this.
I too am envious of you lucky listers who own the '98-'99 blue
KLR's. In my opinion the green/silver is ugly but everyone who has
looked at my bike says they like it a lot!

Doug,
I just bought a KLR650 and a KLR250 from my dealer. He showed me his
cost and I paid $4571 plus state tax for my 650. He gave me the same
deal for a KLR 250 for my daughter at $3865. I did a lot of looking
on the web and found no one lower than this, or if they are, they
tack on some hidden charge. Both modles were 2001. We really love
them and my daughter is busy bending levers and mirrors as she
crashes the bike, but we are having fun and she is doing on a soccer
field. Went for a ride on the trails this evening and she did okay.
Too bad the KLR250 doesn't have electric start also!! She can get it
started most times, just when she gets stuck in the trails.
Have fun,
Dale

Yeah! I was beginning to think I was the only one who likes the color.
