Hey Bruce,
You are living dangerously. Most of the time tying down the front is OK, but
what happens if you drop a strap............bing, bang boom. I always tie my
bike's tires when on trailer. On a big rig like a BMW, I usually use a tie
down on the rear to cut down on the swaying.
Why do I tie the tires to the rail you may ask? Well, many years ago one of
my racing buds, Vic Ostrowski (380 CZ) was heading to the track. Bike was
strapped on as always, that is with the front forks compressed via 2
tiedowns. Somehow one strap let go and the CZ did what became know as the
"Ostrowski Bounce". Bing, bang, boom............very ugly. He raced no
more! Tie the tires to the rail. If a tie down fails, you may get lucky and
keep the bike on the trailer and this is good..

Is this what others are doing, or do you tie down the rear too? I havn't
had a problem yet, except that my straps are showing some wear due to
abrasion with the sides of the trailer. I would like to know more about
what the rest of you are doing. I'll be trailering the bikes up to Northern
Michigan tomorrow. Maybe I ought to be strapping down the rear ends too.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

WOW,
I cant believe all this, who in their right mind would tie down a
motorcycle? Let it be free!!! Just dump it in the back of the van, truck,
caddy, Pinto, Yugo or whatever. If Kawi wanted them tied down there would
be tie-down rings installed. People with newer bikes might want to use the
side stand and just drive carefully.
Knotztruth where are you? might need some help here.

Attachments : That was the first e-mail I saw this morning. I have to say, that's a mighty fine way to be greeted by the computer. The internet needs more sharing people like yourself. Maybe that could be some sort of regulation? Bikini babes required at some point on all KLR web pages? We could start a movement, but then we'd need a name...lets not go there again hehe.
