you have a big boy and likely he's going to get bigger...the KLR250 has been
receiving some good praise on this list lately. It doesn't have a great deal
of power but the other bikes you mention don't either. My take is that it
has a bit more stout suspension and a larger "compartment" than the XT225. I
had a chance to buy either for my 15 yr. old and chose the XT225 for its
larger aftermarket support, electric start, and reports of reliability
(except for cold starting in cold weather). The Dr200 does not receive
favorable praise and I would avoid it...
Frankly, I would suggest getting him a '94 or later DR350SE...my boy is
already eyeing my wife's...

I have a co-worker who owns a KLR 250, had it for about 8 years now, he is
6'2" and smiles when describing his weight as "280 +"!!
He's been very happy with the bike.
