Anybody know anything about ATK motorcycles? Reliability, aftermarket
support, etc.

they're made in Centerville, UT, outstanding components, very few
dealers...they get panned in the press regularly for whatever reason...

don't they have rotax engines? that can't be all bad. mostly aftermarket
type components, too. i rode with a guy last month who had an ATK 2-stroke.
he was pretty happy with it. it cost more, but it came with premium stuff
all around, so no need to upgrade with exhaust, brake lines, new suspension,
bars, etc....

Tumu-
Solid, race ready machines. Expensive, harder to get parts. Fun
bikes. Finally started
putting electric starts on the bigger models. I'd like to own one.
First appeared in the early 80's to my knowledge, as a USA built
machine,
with the Rotax motor............and were cleaning up on the desert
enduros at one
time........Open desert bike class is they're forte.......but great in
the mountains,
well designed...................slightly heavy by leading edge standards
today(I think?).
Torque for days..............light switch throttle response.
Weaknesses I have not heard much about............

Yup, Rotax engine, Dell'orto carb, Stainless brake lines, motion pro
cables, pro-taper handlebars, 190 watt halogen lighting system, and the
wieght on the 490 is only 278lbs dry! There's one on e-bay right now, that's
what piqued my interest. Possible wife-bike. Dunno though, might stick with
a DR or XT though for after market support.
Thanks for all the replies guys.

ATK as a wife-bike? Can you say husband-beater? Is your wife able
to inflict bodily injury? Be careful - you are in grave danger.

Oh yes, she can cause great harm. She's almost 6' tall and could tame a wild
boar without spilling her margarita. Danger? Give me some more! OF course we
all know that the real measure of a wife-bike is how much fun it is to
borrow, right??

Thanks Slide,
That's what I call info!!!
There's a 99 490 on e-bay. It's at $2376.01 right now but reserve is not yet
met. No affiliation with seller just passing along info. It's probably too
much bike for my wife right now so feel free to jump on the bid-wagon if you
wish. My toes are clear of the landing pad.
