On a recent 2k mile trip I averaged 49mpg on my A13. Totally stock. with a tall windshield and luggage. Guess I'm pretty lucky! Joe -----Original Message----- From: Jim & Shannon Morehead [SMTP:morehead@...] Sent: Monday, August 28, 2000 2:34 PM To: DSN_klr650 Subject: [DSN_klr650] Direct Hits Hi All, I recently tried something that seems like a total and complete hoax on my A13. It is a device called a Direct Hit. They can be seen at the Direct Hits web site www.directhits.com. I learned about these things from my buddy with a Ducati and I must admit I laughed out loud at him when he sang the praises of Direct Hits. I thought, "Oh yeah, right, these things make your spark hotter and make your bike run better. You must be a real dumb ass to believe that!!". But, dear listers, I was wrong. I went with my buddy's suggestion and bought one of these little goodies. I haven't been back to the dyno with the DH yet, but I must say the bike does seem to "hit harder" and run stronger. The slightly rich mixture I perceived after doing the jet and pipe mod seems to be gone now. Also, as I noted earlier, my mileage was a dismal 38mpg on average post-mod. After putting the DH on, I have been averaging 43mpg. I know, from recent experience, that seat of the pants performance impressions can certainly be deceptive. However, I also know how to divide and the gas mileage numbers just don't lie. Please feel free to berate these observations and flame me at will. I laughed too. But for $25 US, I don't think any of my mods to date have returned better rewards. I didn't want to post this info until I had been back to the dyno, but the weather here has been so hot, in excess of 100F, that the 200 mile round trip to the dyno is just too much for an old fart like me right now. Besides, I hope to stir up some controversy with this info. CAN WE PLEASE START TALKING ABOUT OUR MOTORCYCLES AGAIN INSTEAD OF THESE SILLY GROUP NAMES???!!! Flame away. I used some in my cage once and unfortunately could not tell any difference (but it was far from a performance car to begin with).  The only bad thing I have heard which made me take them out of my cage and replace, was that they had a greater incidence of breaking off at the element into the cylinder (I assumed with the split element that this was logical) especially in high revving motors.  Again, I do not have a reputable source to substantiate this but I figured why risk it!   Chuck A14

I feel that split fires are a gimmic.  The sparkplug is still only going to fire once at a time.  The spark is not going to split in two.

Jim I think the comments about Splitfire plugs breaking off had nothing to do with "Direct Hit" Ed Windsor Ohio
