One gallon of gas wieghs exactly half of 2 gallons of gas and twice 1/2 a

How about this:
density = mass / volume in (g/mL) or (kg/L)
so, mass (kg) = density (kg/L)* volume (L)1 gallon = 3.785 L
so, the mass (weight) of 1 gal of gas = (0.72 or 0.75 kg/L) * 3.785 (L)=
(2.725
or 2.839 kg) = 6.01 or 6.27 lbs depending on temperature
