[dsn_klr650] performance measurements

Post by Jim Jackson » Tue Aug 29, 2000 10:17 am

Just thinkin... When you read Car and Driver you see the HP and Torque ratings but they are usually of secondary interest. Of primary importance is "getting it to the ground" i.e. 0-60 times / 1/8 mile / 1/4 mile / skidpad tests / 55-75 tests / etc. etc. I have not been into sport bikes or cycles in general long enough to know if this has been done for our bikes. I could honestly care less if a pipe gives me 2 more horsepower. I care if it gives my 0-60 time a 2 second boost. Gripsters are wonderful for the street but how many g's can a KLR pull reliably equipped with them? How about MT-21's? Stockers? I'm getting together next month with a friend and we're going to baseline my KLR and his Ducati 900 and Ninja 500. From there we'll fool around a bit and see what we come up with. I'll let you know. Has anyone else done this? All it takes to get relatively close is a stopwatch and better speedo. Since KORG is pretty much outta the question, because of trademark legal stuff, I change my vote to KLR DOG - KLR Dualsport Owners Group.
