Lew, I asked the same question when I bought my 99. Someone told me that the clutch upgrade in 96 effectively prevents the kickstart kit from being used. Better buy an older beast and upgrade or learn to bump-start. Jim Jackson II A13 "Gonzo" 83 XR350R South Carolina
