[dsn_klr650] dunlop d606 dual sport tire
I'm running the 606 rear with the 193 front. I agree with Gino about hooking
up in the sand, they work wonders here in Florida, I'm very impressed. Since
I also ride in the carolinas, Tennessee and Georgia, The tires have seen all
types of conditions, and contrary to what Gino says, I've had no problem in
the wet. The stick well. I like 'em, and I'll be putting on another set when
the time comes....

I got a 606 on the back I got from Fred in Moab. If you mainly ride in the
dirt, it is an absolute dream. I laugh at sand when I see it. Just gas it
and cruise right through it. On the street, the two problems are wear and
noise. You sound like a 4x4 coming down the road with big tires. Seems to
handle fine, although I do get some highspeed wobble under certain road
conditions like rain grooves, which I never experienced with the stockers.
That could also have something to do with the Kenda on the front.

I had a Trailmax on the rear for about 2K miles, but took it off. It didn't
provide adequate traction on dry roads, wet roads, or gravel.

nklr - 3 day dualsport ride from reno -> vegas
Hello:
I found the clipping below on another MC list (BMW GS). I thought
I would post it here in case anyone was interested. Actually, I
am interested but would need to find a partner from the Colorado
area willing to trailer the bikes out and back (it can snow here
in the mountains in Oct).
I have no financial interest in the organization and know nothing
of it.

The Flamingo 500 is a 540 mile dualsport ride from the Flamingo Hotel
in Reno to the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas. It's a three day ride
starting on the first Saturday in October and ends Monday afternoon
in Las Vegas. The October ride is especially for heavy dualsport bikes
and has more of a "touring " pace than a race or rally.
The Flamingo 500 is a fundraiser for Real Life Adventures
(reallifeadventures.com) All proceeds go toward our student motorcycle
program and equipment. Entry fee is $200. Included is the support
vehicles, trail guide, remote fuel fill ups, trail snacks and drinks.
Also, free bike transport back from Las Vegas to your Bay Area Homefor
the first 5 who request it with their deposit. Not included is
restaurant meals and lodging, and bike transport unless arrangements
are made with REAL LIFE ADVENTURES. All riders are invited to raise
funds for the program - usually through per mile pledges from friends and
business contacts. There are incentives and thank you gifts starting
at the $500 level. There is no minimum fundraising level. Reserve your
space with a $100 deposit, that is non refundable after Sept 15.
Terrain is varied, the most challenging being several miles of deep
sand - a challenge for the GS rider, but certainly doable for the
intermediate or advanced GS rider. Plan on 10-12 hours a day with the
rescue truck being available approx every 75 miles.
This is our 12th Flamingo 500 and as the leader of them all, I have
logged over 6000 miles on this route alone. Every time it is
interesting and I can't wait to go. Ghost towns and goldmines are
common, wild horses, stunning desert views, and temperate weather -
usually. It's a challenge, it's an achievement, and it's a Real Life
Adventure.
Hope to hear from all interested riders soon!
