My two cents on the sight glass issue is simple. If it was in the wrong place, Kawi wouldn't have left it there for 15 years as you said. My case is stamped "2.5L" and that is what I put in. If this isn't enough oil, and the engine fails, that becomes a warranty issue. If Kawi had a bunch of bikes returned for new engines because owners followed their manuals and 2.5L wasn't enough oil, they would either A) Issue a statement informing owners to put a specific quantity of oil in; or B) Move the sight glass (or replace it with a different system)in later models. Fiscally, these options are the smart thing to do, rather than have to replace a lot of engines under warranty (and deal with the resulting poor consumer confidence for their products). Cheers, D.
