nklr- ride report

Post by Gary Webb » Mon Aug 21, 2000 1:17 pm

Folks: Thanks to the help of my fellow KLR listers, my virginal long trip on my A12 (from Sacramento to San Jose and back) was an out-and-out blast. I stayed off the Interstate entirely and stuck to the back roads, which were magnificent, and I went through some of the most breathtaking scenery NoCal has to offer. The roads seemed custom-made for KLR riding. (Alas, I did not see another KLR the whole weekend. Saw plenty of Hogs in the flat lands but I had the road virtually to myself through the mountains.) The traffic was very light both days, the weather was magnificent, and the only scare I had was when I was blasting down the backside of Mt. Hamilton Sunday morning and came face to face with a small mountain lion or bobcat which was standing in the middle of road. I don't know which of us was more surprised, but since only one of us shouted "Holy Sh*t!" I'm thinking maybe it was me. Thanks again for all the suggestions. I never would have found those roads without your help. God, I love this bike. Gary Webb PS. Maybe you guys have already done this and I just haven't seen it, but would it make sense to have a section of this board devoted to Cool Trips (not the here's-what-I-did variety, but posts with road directions and perhaps little descriptors of what there is to see and do along the way)? You could organize it by geographical sections and save people the trouble of reinventing the wheel each time they want to go somewhere unfamiliar. Just a thought...
