hmph. tire rubbing...

Post by Peter Dahlheimer, MD » Sun Aug 20, 2000 6:57 am

got a question. i recently put the used gripsters back on my klr, after having had an mt21 on the rear for a while. i also softened up the preload a little. i went for a ride with my friend, who promptly pulled me over to tell me the tire was smoking! doh. the edge of the gripster was rubbing a little on the muffler! i added two clicks of preload (i think to 4) and it stopped. i was doing the offroad thing for a while, with the requisite biffs, including a couple hard ones. think i bent the swingarm or something? i don't think the muffler moved inward, since i have a guard (albeit a bit weak) there for saddlebags and i don't remember ever smoshing it in against the muffler. then again, my memory for these things isn't necessarily the greatest. anyway, as usual, any comments/experiences appreciated... _pete
