Hello all, 1st, thanks to Fred for prompt response on my stator question. Ok, some ??'s Hope y'all can help. By the way,I've got a 93 KLR w/ 16k miles. I've got my engine apart and would prefer not to have to open it up again any time soon. I've stumbled upon some posts as to the KLR's design/engineering weaknesses (as per Fred and Eldon) such as the balancer chain tensioner. Does anyone know themselves, or if there are any posts listing the KLR weakness and fixes/upgrades?? I'd like to get everything now while I've got it apart. Even if for example my cam chain is still within lower service limits, I'm thinking I'd rather put in a new one now, if it's gonna mean I won't have to take the bike apart again for a long time. Also: Does anyone know any alternate supply sources for balancer and cam chains?? Are there any Tsubaki,DID, RK, etc. aftermarket, better than OEM chains for the KLR? I know that tsubaki makes cam chains for ATV's (saw in Dennis Kirk catalog). Otherwise, any mechanical engineers out there who could size the KLR cam and balancer chains, so that maybe I can get them (only equal or better specs.- tensile strength etc.)from an engineer / industrial machine equipment supplier? I don't imagine Kawasaki's engine chains are very special and in fact suspect the factory chains are of relatively poor quality for their high dealer price. I've also seen mention somewhere of getting parts via Canada. How, where can I do this?? Appreciate any help Jaime St. Paul MN

[dsn_klr650] electrical problem

Fred was right-on like you said, even if he has retro-tendencies! By the way, when I first tried on my Darien Jacket and Pants two years ago I felt I'd been ripped-off, they were so stiff. The collar gave me an instant raw spot. I love the hell out of the suit now. My advice is to wash it right away. It may cause you to have to Scotchguard it again, but I think the collar will be softer faster that way, and the overall stiffness will be less. ScottB
