Hello List!
Before I forget, Mr.Listmeister, could you, please forward this
e-mail to the cdn ds rally, klr adventure, mcadv touring and
xt-yamaha
list? thank!
So far the trip is great. I left one week late, on
2000.08.12, because I underestimated my packing. I still didn't sell
my house, but it's under way, with a realtor. The KLR650 is great!
15T front sprockets are much better with the big load. Repacked my
everyday needs into the handle bar pouch, and into the right pelican
1520. Everything else is difficult to access. I have my tripod
bungied on on side bag handle, tarp and mosquito net on the right,
tire on the top, with the gas canister. We have tons of food, the
bikes are overloaded, but this is a test for my latin american trip.
The Yamaha xt350 works great as a light touring bike, my girlfriend
is
using it. 480km/tank for the KLR, 290km/tank for the XT350 at 90km/h
cruising and rolling downhill.
Some Harley riders greet, many KLRs on the road, tons of friendly
people. Make your own bread, and cook for yourself, it's very cheap.
The gas is 69-72c/liter.
I dropped the KLR in a parking lot. From standing, on an inclined
surface. Couldn't hold it, and I could raise it only with help.
It's
very overloaded. Don't do it, if you have a choice!
I lost my PJ1, now I'm on 85W140 gear lube. The rear tire is still
stock (Dunlop K750) at 13000km, but I have a D606 waiting to be
mounted. I have perhaps another 1000km on these twisties.
The XT350 exhaust plastic melted and burned through the soft saddle
bag inner side. Fixed a piece of wood with some wire to the
passanger
foot peg and the blinker. Now it's safe.
Some insects are huge, they really hurt when hit my neck. Joe Rocket
Ballistic jacket protects well against tiny flying rocks, but still
hurts!
The Caribou Highway (97) is beautiful. In BC the road nr. signs
suck!
I wanted to take some of the backroads/gravel roads, but kept
missing
them. Damn! Is anyone from the local government listening??? ... I
wish only, right?
At single lane construction zones try to get ahead, and see if you
can
ride without pilot car. Sometimes you can. Oderwise you'll eat a
lot
of dust!
I love riding! weather is good, although chilly in the morning but
hot at noon.
Take care, guys, my e-mail time is up. Keep the rubber end down!
Cheers,
istvan+Eh13 and June+XT3502000
PS: if you have questions, you can send it to tra_pista@...
but keep it short, 'cause I have very little time. It might take
some
time 'til I can answer it and I have to appologize for the delay.
