[dsn_klr650] cost of rebuilding engine - or, used from junk yard

Of course there are both direct costs (parts, machine shop, labor) etc.. and also indirect (your time). I wonder if the person doing the rebuild considered the idea of simply searching the nationwide bike junkyards to purchase a low mileage KLR engine and just slap it in there? Although there aren't a lot of KLR's around there MUST be some in a junkyard of recent vintage. >> I have good salvage yard sources but very few KLR's show up there. This rebuild is costing a bit but I have very few labor costs and I have managed to get most parts at a reduced price. The key for me was that I had purchased the bike used for a good price and put an additional 20,000 miles on before doing the engine work. I will still have a reasonable amount of money in the bike. Most importantly I will have the confidence that I have a good motor and since I have dismantled and am reassembling the bike myself have learned how to do repairs that otherwise I would pay someone else to do.
