The gas isn't richer, it is denser due to the temperature of the
storage tanks, (especially tanks stored above ground). In the 'olden
days' before the gas tank on cars and motorcyles were sealed from the
atmosphere, a full tank of gas often expanded to overflowing in a few
hours. I can remember many times topping of the tank in my Suzuki 120
CAT (jeez-who remebers those -dual range 3 spd....) while it was on
the trailer and by the time we got the the gravel pits to ride it was
overflowing.
Anyway cold fuel is denser, so there is more available at delivery to
the engine, but it is short lived as it warms up in the tank and carb
bowl and the improvement in HP is probably negligible - otherwise
racers would put a chunk of dry ice in the tank before starting a
race.....hmmm now there is an idea... ;-)just kidding!
