List,
Due to our rampant fires,(thanks Bill & Al)
I`ve been putting in 16 hour days, as I do the maintenance on our state
aircfaft and contract slurry bombers and am on 24 hr. call. I have quite a
few e-mails from friends on this List and it`s easier to respond via the
List, sorry.
I just wanted to say I`ll get back to you as soon as possible. Since a
large portion of the western half of my state is on fire, and seeing not
much relief till snowfall, it might be a while. I`ll also continue to be
off-List for a while.
I do firespotting in the evenings and it`s amazing the number of fires I
see from the air that pop up every few evenings after dry lightning storms.
For what it`s worth, since logging has been curtailed in much of our
state over the last few years, our fire seasons have gotten proggressively
worse and this seasons fires being so hard to contain are directly due to
the excess of fuels in the woods. It all could have been prevented.
Pray for rain.

[dsn_klr650] nklr fire duty
The fires were worse 50 years ago. Climate has a whole lot more to do with
it than politics. But good on ya, Skip.

[dsn_klr650] back to square one / backfiring
My A14 sounded like a popcorn machine during engine braking. I just finished
putting on a Big Gun exhaust, K&N OEM filter, and a DJ140/needle at center/2.5
turns on mixture screw. I found that when I drilled out the plug for the
mixture screw, it was set from the factory at .25 turns out! No wonder it was
backfiring, I have never heard of one being set this lean. Bike is running
great with the new mods, doesn't even seem like the same power plant. Throttle
response is crisp, no backfiring during engine breaking, exhaust is a bit loud
but I can live with it, and seems to have a much smoother power band.
Had a great time bonding with the KLR this weekend, it was my first time tearing
it down and working on the carb. My thanks to the many posters on this egroup,
for it was only with your help (via the archives) that I felt comfortable
tackling it. After putting the Big Gun on, I think I can now finally tag a name
to her..if I'm not infringing on anyone else, I think I'll call her Godzilla!
(She's green, loud, came from Japan, and now shoots fire out her arse.....ok, so
maybe the real Godzilla shot fire from the other end, but who cares!)
