the conclusions are that it's caused by the stock exhaust ( 8^) ) and that
it's not serious in terms of function. mine's been doing it since about 4k
miles and continues at 30k without any problems.

Hi Everybody,
I looked throught the archive and did not find
anything conclusive about the "Tweety Bird" exhaust
syndrome. Did anyone ever figure out what caused it
and whether or not it is a serious problem?
The reason I am asking is that the KLR I would like to
buy has recently begun "tweeting".
Thanks,
Brad (A9 maybe)

After burning up the packing in your stock muffler, there are (apparently)
some routing issues of the gasses flowing through. You get a sound similar
to an old style vw bug when you roll on the throttle. Doesn't affect the
performance at all but it sounds like crap. Since I am in a parking garage
here at work you can REALLY hear it. Some folks have drilled holes in the
butt plate. I did that too and it reduced it but it definitely didn't go
away.
My opinion only.

Unlike menopause, there's no guarantee. Bikes with mileages between
5K and 20K are at greatest risk. Therefore, it is a good idea to
thoroughly self-examine your muffler at least once a month by gentle
massage, looking for lumps or painful tenderness. A convenient time
to do this is right after showering. Remember, smoking increases
your risk by 50%.

I'm about to turn 5K on my A13. I bought it with 1,800 miles and it started
at about 3,500. I guess it varies, like everything else on our beloved
steeds.

Tweety is just one of those mysteries of life that has no answer. You are
just left in wonder and awe that such an ugly motorcycle could make such
beautiful and melodious tones.

I also wonder if it might be caused by people not cleaning out the spark
trap as per the service manual. Any thoughts on this?

Tweety has been a standard fitting on big bore KLRs since the 1984 600.
Even aussie-spec bikes without spark arresters show this feature.

What kind of a limp d*ck steals from someone else's hard work? All those
"recruiters" and "headhunters" should be called by their real
name...spineless leeching bottom feeding scum sucking pussies, direly in need
of a sock in the mouth! Arne and gang, I figure only the weak minded would
go away anyhow so good riddance.
To me, this list is almost like an extended family. Which brings me to my
next point. Can you loan me $20 til payday?
