[dsn_klr650] tweety exhaust

Post by Peter Dahlheimer, MD » Tue Jun 20, 2000 10:25 am

the conclusions are that it's caused by the stock exhaust ( 8^) ) and that it's not serious in terms of function. mine's been doing it since about 4k miles and continues at 30k without any problems. -----Original Message----- From: Brad Davis [mailto:bradcdavis@...] Sent: Tuesday, June 20, 2000 11:20 AM To: DSN_klr650@egroups.com Subject: [DSN_klr650] Tweety Exhaust Hi Everybody, I looked throught the archive and did not find anything conclusive about the "Tweety Bird" exhaust syndrome. Did anyone ever figure out what caused it and whether or not it is a serious problem? The reason I am asking is that the KLR I would like to buy has recently begun "tweeting". After burning up the packing in your stock muffler, there are (apparently) some routing issues of the gasses flowing through. You get a sound similar to an old style vw bug when you roll on the throttle. Doesn't affect the performance at all but it sounds like crap. Since I am in a parking garage here at work you can REALLY hear it. Some folks have drilled holes in the butt plate. I did that too and it reduced it but it definitely didn't go away. My opinion only. Jim Jackson II A13 - South Carolina

Unlike menopause, there's no guarantee. Bikes with mileages between 5K and 20K are at greatest risk. Therefore, it is a good idea to thoroughly self-examine your muffler at least once a month by gentle massage, looking for lumps or painful tenderness. A convenient time to do this is right after showering. Remember, smoking increases your risk by 50%. Mark B2 A2

I'm about to turn 5K on my A13. I bought it with 1,800 miles and it started at about 3,500. I guess it varies, like everything else on our beloved steeds. Jim Jackson II A13 - South Carolina

Tweety is just one of those mysteries of life that has no answer. You are just left in wonder and awe that such an ugly motorcycle could make such beautiful and melodious tones.
