On page 85 of my KLR650 owner's manual it says to periodicly clean the spark arrester in the muffler. It says to remove 3 drain plugs from the muffler. Start the engine and tap the muffler with a rubber mallet until carbon particals are purged from the muffler. Do any of you do this? How often? ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

Craig, I currently own a KLR650, bought it about 1 1/2 yrs ago and have racked up about 5000 miles. A few years ago I traded in my NX650 (for a Concour), had put about 14,000 miles on it over 6 years, (mostly highway). I have not riden a NX since 96 and did not go directly from it to the KLR. However based on what I remember the KLR motor seems much smoother (especially after a couple of hours on the road). In the power department the NX seemed to be stronger (IMO). Good Luck, Joe
