Hello Everyone,
I've been reading alot of the archive's in regards to footpegs, oil levels
and coolant temp readings.if this info is in the archives im sorry..i didnt
see it and just wanted to share it with the "collective"... footpegs i
tackled myself(i werk at a kawasaki dealer..), could'nt bring myself to
bastardize my KLR with Suzuki pegs...ewwww, i could'nt bring myself to
spend crazy money on ims pegs...owwww, so i hit the showroom floor with a
ruler and some pliers, i quickly spied the "super?"sherpa, off with its
pegs i said. they fit perfect, have healthy springs, nice teeth, decent
length and will be around for at least 10 years from kawasaki dealers, part
numbers are as follows..
pegs numbers
34028-1431 and 34028-1432
spring numbers
92081-1606 and 92081-1607
on the oil level thing..i can only offer my personal experience...i use
2.5l run it for a few minutes, stop it, wait a few minutes, and the level is
in the middle of the sight glass...it takes an hour or so for it to touch
the top, and it is above the glass after that(this is my second klr..first
one an a1..this one an a15)...my landlord is on his second klr also and
they were the same. The dealer i werk at followed the same procedure when
they prepped my bike. This could be totally wrong, but we have never had
any probs. ie no oil in the airbox, etc. We do run our bikes very hard,
rides at 85-95mph for over an hour(on the QEW in ontario...ever ride that
road?..were still in the slow lane..crazy). I would imagine if the level
was wrong some symptoms would appear under those sort of conditions.
amazing motor..fer a "one-lunger"
last bit....
the temp gauge thing...last KLR ran at 1/4 never really moved..unless i was
stuck and trying hard to get out without draging it out sideways, then it
would go right to the edge of the "thick" line and the fan would do its job
at about 3/4. THEN i replaced the cam chain and had a factory mech check my
work,it all looked right but the bike ran really hot..3/4 all the
time...tried it all...no luck
sold it and explained the prob to the buyer who was fine with it.
didnt want to wrench wanted to ride...bought a 2001...hmmmmm...temp gauge
on this is all over the place,i havent put any patterns together yet. It
seems to go from 1/4 to 5/8 when it wants..
i called our tech line at kawasaki..they told me anything in the "thin"
line is "normal" as long as it not right on the edge or in the "thick" line
for prolonged periods of time(the far right of the gauge)...hmmmmm,awful
general.
ridin it like i stole it

p.s. if anyone wants a complete parts list for their kawasaki product let
me know.
