Nope, that doesn't sound right. Is the oil at the bottom of your engine case/bashplate or actually coming from the bolt area? How much oil are you talking about? As for the rubber cover, get one! It's keeping all the dirt and grit out of the seal/gasket area. Without it, the loosening and turning of the tensioner bolt COULD introduce the dirt/grit to the sealing surface, either wearing it prematurely or causing a small leak. Total doom and the end of humanity will result. Oh the horror...the horror! Karl
