Here's an update in my klunking search - I checked my valves (it was overdue anyway) and they are perfectly within spec. The decompression thing and spring is fine. I checked all bolts holding the cam caps in place and the cam chain guide thing. I turned the crank numerous times to check the cam chain and it's perfectly fine. I've now ruled out any klunk coming from the engine. Could be something deeper inside, but I doubt it. I'm now believing it's the chain and/or sprocket on my bike as well. I'm gonna check the chain stretch itself tonight when I get back from work and see if that's still in spec. 23k kms on the stock unit seems to be average life expectancy, so just maybe that's it. My model is a '99 so it only mounts on the splined axle thing, so I don't think that's knocking about. I checked it anyways yesterday and it's not showing any signs of wear indicative of being attached loosely. Karl
