Hi Paul,
Jumper or bypass the side stand switch. I'd remove it all together and
jumper the connection or short the wires but that's just me. Then try to
duplicate the symptoms. There isn't an electrical sensor or signal that
tells you what gear you are in. A false neutral is possible but an
electrical anomaly there is unlikely. I'd by pass the side stand switch
first and then go from there.
