Thanks John. This should be interesting. I did not think the BMW "team" could accommodate two stars - both Juan Roma and Sainct. I had assumed that Roma would follow team orders and ride for "second" in 2001. But looks like Roma would have none of that and so Sainct split (spec-u-latin' on my part). Last I heard Roma was going to be on "Woody-Boxer". I give the edge to KTM if the course has the tight stuff at the start like this year, but if its a more wide-open race BMW and Woody get the nod (if they get tires and driveshafts that can handle the punishment). A BMW boxer winning Dakar in 2001 - imagine that Gino! Knot - ready for rumors and it aint even January yet!

John, The following info is from a previous post. The biggest drawback to this approach is its a bit of a handfull when your KLR is fully loaded. My A9 goes off 'main' onto 'reserve' at the 5 gallon mark. After 20-25 miles, the reserve goes dry. My soulution: 1) Dismount & lean your KLR way over to the left to transfer the gas trapped in the right side of the tank. 2) Ride until it goes dry agin (about 20 miles). 3) Repeat step #1 again. 4) Ride another 5-10 miles. 5) Hitch a ride to the nearest gas station!
