valve shim problemmmmmmmmmmzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Post by steve6018@cs.com » Sat Jul 29, 2000 7:21 pm

just doin my first routine valve shim adjustment thang..... well fellow, if it needs a shim replaced hold on to that damn screw on the sprocket cover.... mine fell down in the motor and i've succesfully turned a 2 hour job into an all day affair! I had to take off the engine left side cover which houses the magneto... The damn magnet hub bolt that goes to the crankshaft was a bear to get off, then the magnet hub wouldn't budge... looks like they made it to be removed with a big bolt (sure its metric....Lowes/home depot/napa/nobody has one that big!) well after carefully inspecting and cursing the situation/ and a good scotch & water, I beacame aware of a binding...no doubt on that very lost screw... when i tried to hand rotate the motor. Good thing i went chasing that screw...could only image the damage it would of done to a running motor..... Back to the hub... After rocking the motor back and forth i heard the screw fall out of the timing chain/sprockets... now i can see it. Came in the house for some dental floss to hopefully snag it with,.... and start to put everythang back. Does anybody know what the caps on the camshaft are torqued too? Does anybody know what the big nut holding the magneto hub is torqued too? Be carefull if you do the same thing... also the kawasaki dealer charge me 10 bucks for a shim, that looks like a used one.. guess the dealer recycles them and wonder if he charges their customers with the price of a new one?

I was looking around at my local KTM-Triumph dealer and they had a strange looking dual sport called a MuZ Baghira (made in Germany). He got it from another dealer that closed his shop and it came with all the triumph inventory. It was a 1998 model but had never been owned. He was looking to sell it at his cost. $5000.00 + tax and license. It was already set up so there wasn't a charge for that. It lists for about $7200.00 + T,L,SU. From what I could see here are some of the good and bad points about it Good points One of a kind and unique looking, you will be the only one on the block to own one No mechanical extras are needed, (it has stainless steel brake lines, all stainless steel exhaust, racing type rear shock with remote reservoir, loop type radiator guards) Yamaha XT660 water cooled single 4 stroke excellent workmanship Bad points One of a kind (hard to find replacement parts away from home or hard to resell) 3 gal fuel capacity 30 lbs heavier and you can feel it!! no back rack no RPM gauge no wind screen ++++++++++++++++ Here is the address to the MuZ Baghira web site in the usa http://www.motorradna.com/motorcycles/Bagh/Baghira.htm The KLR is still at the top of the list for best dual sport in my book. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
