help needed with fan motor/ coolant level

KLR wise men and women-
Help!!! I really want to ride on Sunday and if I don't solve my
problem soon I won't be going far. I crashed and subsequently broke
my bike in several places last weekend. The largest problem is my fan
motor. On the trail we discovered how attracted the fan blade is to
the radiator. We disconnected the fan motor after the fan motor
melted the center out of the fan blade. I rode it home without the
temp gauge moving above the levels I normally see it at.
I have fixed the fan with epoxy. (Sorry Fred, I won't be calling you
for the aluminum fan just yet.) I tested the fan motor on my car
battery before re-installing everything.
I just came in from running it to try and test that the fan will kick
off. It doesn't seem to be working.
I let it idle for a while and
the ran up and down the street slowly, just like being in traffic.
The needle was way up in the temp range, well above where it usually
is before the fan kicks in.
I checked the fuses in the cavernous fuse box. Neither appears to be
blown. I am not even sure that the fan circuit is fused?? The other
thing I am wondering. The bike is low on coolant (boiling over,
tipping over etc...) If the coolant is low, below the low line, will
that affect how the temp sensor in the head works? Anyone have
similar problems, and possible solutions? I would scour the archives
but time is running short.
Thanks, Robb
