[dsn_klr650] choke stuck, rider covered with cable lube

[b]Bill,[/b]   [b]There is a plunger/piston at the end of your enrichener cable that is returned by a spring.  The end of the plunger has a rubber seal that may be leaking or the plunger could be stuck in the carb.  One other thing I have found on some bikes is that the spring could be rusted and breaking apart and doesn't have the spring pressure to return the plunger to the off position.  You would need to replace the spring with a new one.[/b]   [b]Fred[/b]

Thanks Fred.  Is the plunger a part of the cable?  Or is it a part of the carb?

[b]It is a separate piece that is attached to the cable inside of the top of the carb.  If you take off the cable at the handlebars, you can rotate the carb to get to the plastic goodie that holds the cable and plunger into the carb.  Undo the plastic thingamajig and you will see the plunger that can be removed from the cable.[/b]

chain roller/ rear spring upgrade

Hello list, Today whilst I worked on the old a-11 I noticed the dreaded chain marks on the airbox drain tube, I looked at an old article written by some magazine about the mods that Baja designs did to the KLR and they added a chain roller down there to avoid cracking off the drain nipple. I found a simpler approach that avoids any welding: I put a longer bolt in the upper Passenger footpeg mount hole, longer by about an inch, and bought a small length of 3/4" delrin rod, about 1-1/2 " long and tapped it for the 8mm bolt, and just screwed it onto the back of the bolt left hanging out over the chain. We'll see how it works. also, I was looking for a way to keep the stock ride with the bike overloaded, and I kept saying, if only there were another preload setting, well I installed one, I made a 1/8" washer to fit between the spring and spring retainer on the shock body. The shock is easy enough to remove and my auto mechanic let me use his spring compressor. Each click of the preload adjuster on the rear shock compresses the spring about 1/8" so by adding a 1/8" spacer, Preload 1 becomes 2 and 5 becomes 6 works great, I saved the pattern if anyone wants one -neil
