[dsn_klr650] ride to work

Post by Mark » Wed Jul 19, 2000 9:07 am

It's raining in central PA today, and I rode. I was surprised to see that I was not the only rider today as there were about 7 bikes in the lot when I arrived late for work today. I'll ride to work in any weather down to 15 degreesF as long as the roads have no big sheets of ice. I'll even ride in 4-5 inches of wet snow. [dsn_klr650] ride to work

Post by Scherer, Michael » Wed Jul 19, 2000 9:56 am

I was surprised to see no other bikes in the garage this morning. Not even the other die hard (not bothered by weather) that rides a great looking Shadow. I totally expected to see the five Harleys that often show up when the temp is above 70 but below 90 and there isn't any rain forecasted for a couple of days (happens about once a summer here in Pittsburgh). I don't mind that they weren't there because I won't have to ride and step around the pools of oil left behind on these few occasions. I am sure the CEOs, Financial analysts, and Lawyers will be rolling in at about 8:30 or so on their Beemers. I hope everyone that wanted to ride in has done so. Have a safe "ride to work day" to everyone! [dsn_klr650] ride to work

Post by Enlow, Kyle S » Wed Jul 19, 2000 10:31 am

I road my new 88 to work today, second day in a row. It is also raining today here in southern Indiana. I didn't have much of a choice my car needed repairs. [dsn_klr650] ride to work

Post by ATO137528@aol.com » Wed Jul 19, 2000 10:37 am

I ride to work almost every day. It's the only reason that I get out of bed sometimes. Only two other bikes in the garage...a Harley and my boss's Bandit 600. Just about everyone around here drives fat-assed SUV's and are obstacles to overcome. Getting around/through traffic on my KLR is a hoot! I've only dropped it once in over a year. Not bad. LOL My fave trick? Ride up to the roof of out 12 level parking garage, and wheelie the lenght of it. Honorable Mention: Powering the rear end around and hanging it out when looping back and forth on the smooth pavement in the garage. Surbabans and Explorers will stop and let me go by when they hear a sliding, screaming motorcycle behind them while they poke along trying to get a spot by the elevators (SO damn lazy!). Besides a good time, it's also a practical thing. It's the best way I can think of to keep the side knobs on the Kenda rear wearing with the center knobs. LOL Lamar A14 (no numbered parking place yet...)

I rode in the rain too, but I must confess to using the Victory as it had watertight bags to carry my paperwork. Still waiting for JC Whitney tour box for luggage rack. Saw no other bikes on the road. BTW, the Victory "Apex" rainsuit (which I bought because it had an insulated panel on inseam of right leg to prevent meltdown from the Vic's protruding exhaust) is the best summer rainsuit I've ever owned. Very well made, quite waterproof, and both the jacket and pants fold into their own built-in bags. $120, local dealer sold it to me for $90. I prefer riding the KLR in the rain as it feels safer even with dual-sport tires. Weather protection is better than the Vic's unless I bolt on QD Memphis Fats shield and lowers. Pete the soggy Streak

[dsn_klr650] bridgestone tw22 rear

Toby: To be honest, I've seen the TW41 and TW42s on Suzuki bikes in dealer's showrooms and they looked a little too street-oriented to me. This is a completely subjective judgement based totally on appearance. I've been looking for tires which match the OEM Dunlop tread pattern but with longer tread life. Thanks. Bob Kaub
